Is It More Likely I will Tear More This Time?

Is It More Likely I will Tear More This Time?
I had my first baby only 6 month's ago. The Labor and birth went brilliant, but I had 2nd degree tears and she was only 6lb9. They say that second baby's are normally bigger then the first, so is it more likely that I will have worse tearing this time around?
Also, by the time I'm due, which is the end of next May, will my scar tissue from the first birth be more of an influence on tearing more or has it healed enough over the year?

Has anyone been in this situation?

Thank you

answer:
My first baby Jack 7pound 13 I tore really bad from Vagina to anus. My 2nd baby Owen also 7 pound 13 I never tore. So you maybe alright, but in replace of tearing I still went through hell with back Labor.. ;( I'm pregnant again and don't what to expect with the birth of my 3rd son.. 3 more weeks to go yayyyy!

my baby was 8lbs 7 oz and i teared reallllly bad, i had really bad tearing, but i probably would half to say you may not because your pelvic area, and your vagina walls, have had labor and been stretched already and it may stretch better this time around to not cause so much tearing, but on the down side, you may tear, it's just a thing you'll half to wait and see, and if you are worried about tearing so bad talk to you dr, and he or she may figure something out for you, so your labor will not half to go that way. Good luck

hi hun, i had a 3rd degree tear with my first who was 7lb 13, i spoke to my midwife about this and she said that i was actually less likely to tear 2nd time around as you have already stretched. im trying my hardest not to worry about the birth but i do, so i know how you feel! i am now thinking if it happens it happens! cant do much about it!!

My second baby was 1-1/2 pounds lighter than the first and I felt wonderful afterwards. My first child really made a mess of my bottom, but the second one didn't do that so a bigger baby is not gauranteed next time around.

Chances are it will be easier second time around. Now you have done child birth once you know what to expect. To be honest I was lucky with my children's births, no nasty tears or serious traumas. I do remember in my second pregnancy being totally unconcerned about labour until it started, then I suddenly remembered how much it hurt and panicked about having to do it again!

To lessen your chances of tearing again you need to take control of your labour, you will get to hospital and the doctors and midwives will want you to lie on your back so they can see what is going on. Once they attach that foetal heart monitor on to you you are effectively tied to the bed. That's when things can get messy! To make it easier for you this time you would be better to deliver on your hands and knees rather than on your back! Did you know that you don't actually need to push to give birth? Aggressive pushing with loads of midwives egging you on is not good, it stresses your body and makes you more likely to tear. Get on your hands and knees and let the baby gradually slide out. Only push when you feel that irresistable urge. Honestly, you will put a lot less pressure on your scar by doing it this way.

My mum, a midwife, cr@p mum, ace midwife, taught me how to protect my body from the worst effects of childbirth.

Just because you tore on your 1st does not mean you are more likely to tear with your 2nd, Where you tore with your 1st you have healed, also your pelvic muscles are weaker as your 1st baby has made way for subsequant babies, I have had 4 and well I was cut with my 1st 5lb 5oz and had something like 8 stitches i cn't remember how many exactly i was cut due to forceps as it was a prolonged labour and i was exhausted and there was alot of pushing so i was worried that the area i was cut would not with stand labour on my second who was 6lb 8oz but i didn't tear, my 3rd she was 7lb1oz and again i didn't tear yet my 4th well she was 5lb3oz and well i had a 1degree tear on the old scar but no stitches, due to prolonged labour like my 1st, the 2 middle labours were pretty straight forward, yet my 1st and 4th were my worst labours,

so please dont worry as well size will not determine whether you tear as you can see i had 2 heavier babies and did not tear on my scar yet when i had a smaller baby due to the pushing i tore

Hope this helps hun and good luck xx
