Do you feed your child(ren) under 2 berries?
Yesterday I was at the urgent care for myself and Jarrett was with me. So after the doctor looked at me I asked her a question on how to get Jarrett to drink cow's milk because he is refusing formula and cow's milk. Well, she told me to make him milk fruit smoothies so he can get his milk and she asked me what fruits he eats. I told her he likes blueberries, strawberries and raspberries (and a lot of other fruits). She told him not to feed him any berries because he could get a berry allergy and to stop and start back up again at two years old age. This doesn't make sense to me because baby food has berries in it and I fed him that stuff. He has no allergies to any berries.
So my question is at what age did you feed your child berries? Was it before 2 year old age? And why did you make this decision to do it before 2 years of age?

answer:
Was this doctor older? Until about 5 years ago they generally recommended delaying introduction of allergins (including berries) until after 1-2 years, to reduce the risk of allergy. But then research found that delaying allergins does NOT reduce the risk, and may increase it, so that advice is now considered very dated. But, like much dated advice, some doctors don't stay up to date and continue to offer it.

(Also, if your toddler has already had berries, then he obviously ISN'T allergic, so I'm unclear as to what the doctor thinks you'd accomplish by stopping now.)

My daughter is a teenager, so when she was a baby that advice WAS still current. IIRC, I waited until after a year to offer berries, but she had them before she was two.

Honestly, I fed my kids so many things before I was "supposed" to. My kids were getting peanut butter, berries, chocolate, ice cream, shellfish, eggs and just about everything else before they were even a year. None of them have a single food allergy, and all are in fantastic health. The kids are currently 6, 7 and 3. I just ignored what the doctor told me, and went ahead anyways, because there aren't any food allergies in my family or my husbands family.

Aubree's Pedi told me the same thing but she still eats 'em! Your the Momma, you make the decisions! Are food allergies common in your family? If so, then MAYBE I would lay off of 'em for a little while. Food allergies are not common in my family so Im just going with the flow and going with whatever she likes to eat (besides peanut butter, nuts and honey - but am considering trying peanut butter soon)!

Oh, wow, never heard of that.

Well, I started feeding him berries probably around the time he started eating finger foods, maybe right around 1 yr or so. He loves berries and so do we. We were just experimenting, letting him try different things that we tried.

I have heard that, but I don't follow it. I can't see any reason to stop giving them to him if he's not showing any signs of allergies. I started giving my 3 girls berries around 8 months and we have had no issues and no allergies.

My daughter had blueberries from around 7 or 8 months, and other berries at about a year. I believe the suggestion to withhold berries until 2 years applies to children who are at risk for food allergies.
