How long would you keep your croupy child away from other ki

My son woke up with a croupy cough this morning...I took him to the pediatrician...and it was confirmed. How long would you keep a child with croup away from other kids?

Until the barking is gone. Probably 2 days maybe? Did he get Prednisone? My daughter's croup barky cough is usually gone in 1-2 days after taking Prednisone.

What is causing the croupy cough? If it is something contagious I would keep them away from other kids as long as they are infectious. Usually until they have been 24 hours with no fever or been on antibiotics for 24 hours. If it is caused by something like asthma then they aren't contagious and you could send them back to school as soon as they feel better. The cough may last for a while and asthma isn't contagious.

This is something you should have asked the doctor. I'm sure it is ok to call the doctor and ask a nurse.

I agree with the user who said until the croup sound is gone. My oldest has always had colds go to her chest so she croups loudly. We homeschool so she doesn't miss much school.

my son somehow had croup 3 times last year, and we made sure to keep him home until he was completely over the virus.
