Most Doctors will do it after 3 children,no questions. After 2 children they may counsel you and partner to be sure it is what you want. You must be at least 22 years or older.
I have heard of someone having only one child and having it preformed.I think it really depends on your situation and the guidelines with that particular Doctor..all have different rules and regulations to follow.

It will depend on the doctor. Certainly there are guidelines, but basically what they want is to be sure that you won't regret it. That normally involves some combination of your age and whether your family is likely to be "complete" in your eyes. Someone who's been married for 20 years and has 4 teenage children is far more likely to be sure about not wanting (more) kids than someone who's 20 and has neither kids nor partner.
They prefer older women, but my daughter-in-law got her tubes tied at about 24 after having 3 children in 3 years and they didn't want and could not afford any more. But then, she could not deal with the 3 she already had. The best thing to do is talk to your doctor. I think it is a case-by-case decision. Just remember that this procedure does NOT protect you from STD's, so if your reason is to have a lot of sex you still need to do it safely.
Not only does it depend on the doctor- some don't like preforming it on women in their early 20s, it also depends on your insurance. In my state, after 3 children usually you can get one done with no questions asked. My cousin wanted one done after her second child but she wasn't 22- 5 months shy- and her insurance wouldn't cover it because she wasn't 22 yet.
It depends on the doctor. My brother girlfriend wanted her tubes tied after having her second child. That doctor told her no she would need to be 23 or have 3 kids. So her didn't get it done. She still has two kids. My brother got himself fix ( him and ex broke up) so he wouldn;t have anymore on himself. I had a friend that had two kids and got her tubes tied. Then a friend had one kid and was able to get her tubes tied. Now I have 3 kids and got mine tubes tied. I wanted to have three and it was enough.
In most places I have seen, it's an either/or situation. You have to be either 22 or have 2 children. You can call around to other doctors in your area, your local health department, etc and find out what the specific rules for your area are.
No, they offered to tie my tubes right after I had my son at 23 (my only child). I should have taken them up on it then, when I had good insurance. Now, I would like to get it done but my insurance won't cover the costs and it would be a few thousand dollars out-of-pocket.
My sister has wanted her tubes tied since she was 17 as she never wants kids. The doctor she went to told her that she cannot get her tubes tied until she has given birth to one child. She's 20 and on birth control now so she doesn't get pregnant (unless her alcoholic abusive boyfriend hides her birth control from her).
Yep, you are required by federal law to have at least 3 children and be at least 35 years of age.
