4 week old with tonsillitis?
I took my son for his 1 month check up today. My doctor told me that he has tonsillitis. Now idk if he was wrong, i was reading online and it said parents figure somethings wrong because their child has a fever, he hasn't at all. He has been really fussy lately and stuff but everyone kept telling me it wa scolic . Now the dr never gave me any medication for it or anything. So this is tonsillitis or what? If it is what are some ways i can treat it because again the dr never told me how to
answer:
I would think that he would have been prescribed antibiotics. Also, I know you said that you have another appointment tomorrow, but if you feel your baby is in a great deal of pain right now, tonight and isn't eating at all or nursing then you can always bring him to the er. You don't want the baby to dehydrate. But if the baby seems to be going through it well, continuing to eat and such then he should be fine. I hope the best for the little guy. Good luck!!
If the baby is only one month old and this is prolly his second appointment, and you are already concerned about the doctor being wrong, def get a second opinion, or forget that doc, and find a new one. Evidently he doesnt know what he is doing. Dont take any chances, i would call right away and make an appointment with a different doctor. Any untreated infection is very dangerous, and if it is an infection, there are medications that can be given even to a 4 week old. Good luck, and i hope your son is ok.
The 'no fever' thing doesn't surprise me at all. My son had RSV when he was 9 weeks old (a very dangerous virus in such a small baby) and he didn't have a fever at all. Not so much as a degree over normal. My doctor said that sometimes babies don't always get a fever when they're that small. It was news to me too. I don't trust the absence of a fever at all now... just because it's not there doesn't mean they're not sick! content from pregnancy question and answersRenting&RealEstate
The fact that he didn't give you antibiotics for the tonsillitis is surprising though. I'd definitely seek a second opinion if I were you.
Good luck, I hope the little guy feels better soon

thats bullsh*t... i would go see another doctor... i have suffered with tonsillitis my whole like and if you baby has it you should have antibiotics... go to another doctor
I had tonsilitis 2 weeks ago, and my daughter caught it from myself. If you are nursing him, keep breastfeeding on demand, keeping his fluids up.. he might be a bit fussy because of the infected throat/tonsils and the flu symptoms like congested throat, so be a bit patient. The doctor I visited, actually prescribed her on amoxcillin, which I am sure is pretty safe to prescribe for a 1+ month old. The antibiotics worked a treat, took her about a week to recover (took me almost 2 weeks - which is the average), but all the other flu like symptoms were all gone. In regards to the fever, most people get it when they contract tonsilitis, but I think if he didn't he's lucky! It's mainly the sore infected tonsils that is the main culprit.
I would definitely see another doctor, because there's no other 'natural way' to recover from tonsilitis, it needs to be treated immediately.
