What does everybody think of disabled people adopting a baby
Specifically a blind/visually impaired couple.. If that couple are stable, loving, caring, supportive, educated, enough money to provide well and save for college.
I know a couple that both of them are totally blind and they raised 3 kids who have perfectly normal vision and no disabilities, 2 of them are twins! All three seem happy and all three finished college and are very successful. I imagine this couple had to have a little help along the way.. neighbors or family/friends to like read the kids' report cards, help with transportation, etc. But I think the most important things - parental support, guidance, love -came from the parents. Work-arounds can be developed for all the other issues.
So all other things being equal or better than equal.. maybe ideal... how likely do you guys think it is for a couple where one is completely blind and the other has some, very small field of vision, to face all the challenges of raising kids? Thx in advance =

answer:
I don't have a problem with it. People, whether they have a disability ot not, who have children generally have support to help them raise their children. I know a couple who are deaf and have raised children very well - children can hear. They have support so it's not an issue over raising the children. Knowledge of business and finance, please go to pregnancy
Disabled people can raise children and all they may need is support so provided they have this I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to adopt.

As long as the family has the support that they need and the financial resources to raise children, I don't see why they can't. As the saying goes, "love is blind."
As long as the adult is use to being blind then I see nothing wrong with it. If the adult isn't use to being blind and uses the child for some help beyond what a child should be doing then I think that's wrong. Blind parents can be beneficial to a child though. Teaches them to be patient and other things and maybe even to read brel.
As someone with a mild case of a birth defect commonly known as CP I find your implication that 'disabled' people can't properly raise children by themselves VERY offensive. Thanks... and yes I think that it is plausible and in the right cases a great idea for them to adopt.

Having a 'disability' won't make one less able to be a parent.
As long as they have a support team to help in those challenging times I see nothing wrong with it.
There are so very many children out there waiting for a good home.An your example proves that it can be done. there are certainly no guarantees when it comes to child rearing; be it bio or adoption.

Hmm, my great grandparents were both deaf. They did a great job raising my grandma and her siblings. And this was back when there were no assistants for people with "disabilities." (1920's) In fact, if you were deaf people often referred to you are "deaf and dumb." So if they could successfully raise 3 children in a time period where they couldn't even get assistants, then yes i think just about anyone can successful raise a child in a time period where there is alots of help.
BUT i feel that if you are going to adopt a baby, the child should be "better off" then they were with their first family. So if i was to ever place a child (which would never happen) i would pick a family that seemed to have everything together. I would probably pick a family that was in perfect health.

My little sister is blind and she is capable, independent, and loving. Let me just say, I would hate for her dream to adopt to be shattered just because she is without the ability to see. I think she would be just as good if not a better mother than my sighted self. =]
