SERIOUS ANSWERS PLEASE: international adoption?
Anyone who has adopted:I know for something this serious i should talk to an adoption center who does international but I read that there is only one in the western hempishere which is located in Denver Colorado(where i live)that does adoption from Israel. So can anyone tell me the name of this center and where I can contact them? I know this is a total irrevalvent question, but does anyone know if I can adpot a Jewish child eventhough im Christian
answer:
?RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: Adoptive parents must stay in Israel for the duration of the adoption process.
In order to adopt a baby up to age 2, the parents must be Israeli citizens. Non-Israeli citizens can only adopt a baby or a child with special needs for whom no adoptive parents could be found in Israel. Preference will be given to adoptive parents of the same religion or ethnic origin as the child.
It does say that adoption from Isreal is very rare. I believe Isreal ranks 3rd or 4th in international adoptions..meaning they import many children because there are just so few to come available there. You do not need an agency to apply to adopt from Isreal. It must be done through the Central adoption Athority in Isreal. Of course you do need the home study from an agency or social worker still.
?TIME FRAME: To adopt a baby in Israel, there is approximately a 5-year waiting list.
When adopting a child with special needs, there is at least a six-month wait (depending on the age of the child and the parents’ abilities).
The children come on immigrant visa's (IR-3) and have to be formally adopted once here in the US.
Good luck to you.

Why would you want to remove a child from his homeland, culture, customs, and native language -- not to mention his RELIGION? It seems very selfish to me. If you want to give a home to a child who needs one, there are tens of thousands of kids in U.S. foster care right now who need homes and loving families.
I'm not saying that American children are more important than Israeli children. I just think that children who need to be adopted should be adopted by people in their own countries who speak their native language. A child who needs parents has already lost so much...it is very unfair to make them also have to lose the very land in which they were born.
If you do adopt an Israeli child, do you plan to let him practice his religion or will you force him to convert? I'm a Christian, but if I adopted a Jewish/Buddhist/Agnostic/etc. child, his or her religion would be his or her choice. Don't force your religion on a child who already has one, OK?
